Opening Friday May 26th.

The exhibit tells the story of a local African American steamboat captain, Hansford Bayton, who delivered mail and ran excursions during the early 20th century. It is based on a book by his great-granddaughter Dr. Julie Sullivan.

The museum gift shop has copies of Dr. Sullivan’s book, Against the Tide, the Turbulent Times of a Black Entrepreneur.
